Coltsfoot , also called coltsfoot because of the shape of its leaves, is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. It is distinguished by its yellow flowers similar to those of the dandelion, which appear at the end of winter, even before its leaves develop.
Coltsfoot was used to relieve respiratory ailments and was consumed as a tea or syrup to soothe coughs. Some sources mention the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in the plant, which led to moderate consumption. First Nations used various medicinal plants with similar properties, such as mullein and milkwort, to support respiratory health.
Versatile and tasty, this wild plant brings an original touch to dishes while offering a unique taste experience!
