Coltsfoot , also called coltsfoot because of the shape of its leaves, is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. It is distinguished by its yellow flowers similar to those of the dandelion, which appear at the end of winter, even before its leaves develop.

Taste and culinary uses:

  • Flowers : Their slightly sweet and aromatic flavor makes them perfect for adding to salads, infusions or even sautéed in a pan.

Traditional uses and precautions

Coltsfoot was used to relieve respiratory ailments and was consumed as a tea or syrup to soothe coughs. Some sources mention the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in the plant, which led to moderate consumption. First Nations used various medicinal plants with similar properties, such as mullein and milkwort, to support respiratory health.

Versatile and tasty, this wild plant brings an original touch to dishes while offering a unique taste experience!

*Do not consume in high concentrations or for long consecutive periods (one month). Contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

If you have any doubts about your physical condition or medical history, consult a doctor before consuming this plant (as with many wild plants).
