The Pepper of the Dunes
Dune Pepper , also known as the male catkin of Alnus Crispa (Crispy Alder), is a unique and valuable boreal spice. Although it is called "pepper," it is not a pepper in the botanical sense. In fact, it is the immature male catkins of the crispy alder, which visually resemble long pepper but offer a distinct resinous and lemony flavor.
