Awaken Flavours. Reveal Traditions. Celebrate Spices.

Inspired by First Nations heritage and the tradition of passing down recipes, knowledge, and stories by word of mouth around the fire and the table, The Warrior’s Recipes celebrates vibrant, generous cuisine deeply rooted in the land.

Please note that this book is available in French only.

Created by chefs Peter Moineau, Xavier Deschênes, and Maxime Lizotte, this book brings ancestral culinary traditions and modern creativity together in a vibrant way. Boreal spices, maple, wild mushrooms, berries, and plants from the land meet game from our forests, fish from our rivers, seafood, and great classics of contemporary cuisine.

The Warrior’s Recipes features a total of 73 original recipes, along with numerous sub-recipes and serving suggestions presented with the dishes. The book contains 69 main recipe presentations, but one includes two distinct recipes and another features four, bringing the actual total to 73 recipes—not including all the accompaniments.

Three Chefs, Three Culinary Worlds

Chefs Peter Moineau, Xavier Deschênes, and Maxime Lizotte combine their expertise, creativity, and love of local ingredients to create cuisine that boldly blends influences and breaks down barriers.

Each chef brings his own unique perspective to this culinary exploration of the land. Together, they offer accessible, bold, and inspiring dishes made to be cooked and shared.

Water, Fire, Air, and Earth

The book is structured around four great elements—Water, Fire, Air, and Earth. Each offers a different way to explore ingredients, seasons, cooking methods, and the richness of the land.

  • Water showcases fish, seafood, and ingredients inspired by rivers, lakes, and wide-open spaces, as well as boiling and steaming techniques.
  • Fire celebrates grilling, high-heat cooking, smoke, and dishes made for sharing.
  • Air opens the door to lighter, more delicate, and creative cuisine.
  • Earth reveals game, mushrooms, roots, berries, and boreal plants.

More Than 70 Recipes Inspired by the Land

From maple-glazed trout and tomahawk steak with cedar butter to venison sagamité, duck gravlax, beef Wellington with wild mushrooms, and strawberry, fir, and rhubarb tartlets, every recipe is an invitation to discover, cook, and share.

The book features game, fish and seafood, meat, wild mushrooms, maple, berries, boreal plants, desserts, and a wide variety of accompaniments created to complement the main dishes.

The recipes celebrate ingredients rich in history while incorporating them into decidedly modern cuisine. They offer opportunities to discover new flavour combinations, explore ingredients from the land, and give spices a fresh place in everyday cooking.

An Invitation from Épices du Guerrier

Daniel Picard, co-owner of Épices du Guerrier Inc., is a passionate ambassador for Indigenous culinary traditions. Proud of his Wendat roots, he has spent more than thirty years travelling through communities across Quebec in search of rare ingredients and flavours steeped in history.

In 2017, he founded Épices du Guerrier Inc. with his business partner, Patrice Dion, to showcase the plants, spices, and treasures of Quebec’s forests. The Warrior’s Recipes carries this mission forward by bringing the land, traditions, creativity, and the joy of good food together around one table.

More than just a recipe collection, this book is an invitation to explore, discover, and enjoy cooking. Let the wind carry you, the fire warm you, and the earth guide you. Rediscover your roots, one bite at a time.

Because eating is living. And cooking is, above all, an act of sharing.
